Book: The Way of Kings
I’ve just finished reading The Way of Kings for the second time. I wanted to re-read before the second book comes out in March. I still feel that this book is the best epic fantasy book that I’ve read. I really like the way the Brandon Sanderson builds a completely different world in each series including completely original magic systems and this book is no different.
As with each book that I read, I like to review my highlighted passages to see what lessons can be learned. Here are some passages that stand out:
The means by which we achieve victory are as important as the victory itself.
Let your actions defend you, not your words.
Expect honor from those you meet, and give them the chance to live up to it.
Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
Let [them] believe as they wish — the wise among them will find goodness and solace in their faith; the fools would be fools no matter what they believed.
The finest defense of character is correct action. Acquaint yourself with virtue, and you can expect proper treatment from those around you.
Somebody has to start...Somebody has to step forward and do what is right, because it is right. If nobody starts, then others cannot follow.
Your words are like the hundred doves...Easy to release, difficult to keep.
I’m looking to try out some new authors for epic or high fantasy. For many years I’ve read Robert Jordan, Terry Brooks, Terry Goodkind and other books by Brandon Sanderson.
Any suggestions?
